A game I learned from some Austrians. Game will include a 36 card deck as well as 18 coins in a small box.
Objective
Each player starts with 3 coins. Players who lose all their coins are eliminated. The last player with coins wins.
Setup
Players take turns being the dealer.
- The dealer shuffles the deck.
- The dealer deals 3 cards to every other player.
- The dealer looks at the top 3 cards and chooses whether they will be:
- their starting hand, or
- the 3 face-up center cards.
- The next 3 cards become whichever was not chosen, so that both the dealer and the center have 3 cards.
The player clockwise from the dealer goes first. Play continues clockwise.
On Your Turn
Choose one action:
- Trade One Card: Swap 1 card from your hand with 1 center card.
- Trade Three Cards: Exchange your entire hand with the center cards.
- Skip: Make no trade.
- Knock: End the round. All other players take one final turn, then all hands are revealed.
Scoring
Card values:
- 6–10 = Face value
- U (Unter), O (Ober), K (King) = 10
- A = 11
Your score is the highest possible total from any one suit in your hand.
Example: U♥, K♥, A♠ = 20 points.
Three of a Kind: Any 3 cards of the same rank score 30.5. (e.g., 3 Sevens = 30.5 points)
Losing Coins
After hands are revealed:
- If one or more players have less than 20 points, every player below 20 loses 1 coin.
- Otherwise, the player with the lowest score loses 1 coin.
- If multiple players tie for the lowest score, each tied player loses 1 coin.
- A player can lose at most 1 coin per round.
Examples
24, 18, 16, 22 → The players with 18 and 16 each lose 1 coin.
24, 22, 27, 25 → The player with 22 loses 1 coin.
Special Rules
First Turn: Your first action each round must be Trade One Card.
Matching Center: If all 3 center cards are the same suit, you must Trade Three Cards.
31 Rule: If you reach 31, immediately reveal your hand. All players reveal their hands and the round ends immediately.
