Squeak Radio is an internet radio player published by Squeak Inc. This policy describes what the app does with your information.
The short version: Squeak Radio has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and it sends nothing about you to us. We do not operate a server that receives your data, because there isn't one. Everything the app remembers stays on your phone.
There is one thing you should understand, though, and it is covered in detail below: playing a radio station connects your device directly to that station's own server, which is operated by someone else entirely.
What is stored on your device
The app saves the following locally, using your device's private app storage:

This information never leaves your device. We cannot see it. It is not backed up to us, synced, or shared. Deleting the app deletes all of it, and there is nothing left behind anywhere else, because it was never anywhere else.
The Recents list can also be cleared at any time from the RECENT tab.
What leaves your device
1. The station directory (Radio Browser)
Station listings come from Radio Browser, a free community-run directory. It is not operated by us.
When you browse, search, or open the app, it requests station data from Radio Browser's servers. Those requests contain:
- what you searched for, or which genre you selected
- an identifying User-Agent (
SqueakRadio/1.0) - your IP address — unavoidably, as with any request to any website
When you tune a station, the app also sends that station's public ID to Radio Browser so its popularity ranking stays current. This is a vote for the station. It is not tied to you, contains no identifier for you or your device, and we never see it.
Radio Browser's handling of these requests is governed by its own terms, not ours.
2. The radio stations themselves
This is the part worth reading twice.
When you play a station, your device streams audio directly from that station's server. Audio does not pass through us, and we have no relationship with these operators.
That means the station's server can see:
- your IP address, and therefore your approximate region
- that a request was made, and for how long you listened
- standard connection details any web server receives
There are roughly 50,000 stations in the directory, run by thousands of independent broadcasters worldwide. Each one decides its own logging and privacy practices. Many have no published privacy policy at all. We cannot inspect, audit, control, or vouch for any of them.
If this matters to you, the only reliable protection is not to play a given station, or to use a VPN.
3. Nothing else
There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporting, no advertising network, no social login, and no third-party tracker of any kind in this app. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated before the change ships.
Permissions

The app does not request microphone, camera, location, contacts, storage or phone permissions, and cannot access them.
Insecure connections
Around half of the stations in the directory stream over plain
http:// rather than https://. Android normally
blocks this; Squeak Radio permits it, because otherwise about half the
catalogue would simply not play.
The practical consequence: for those stations, the audio stream and the address being requested are not encrypted in transit, and could in principle be observed on a shared or hostile network. This affects listening only — no personal information is transmitted over these connections, because the app does not hold any.
Children
Squeak Radio is not directed at children. Station content comes from thousands of independent third-party broadcasters and is not moderated, filtered or rated by us. It may include material unsuitable for children, including explicit language and adult subject matter. Parental discretion is advised.
Your choices
- Clear your history — the CLEAR control on the RECENT tab.
- Remove favourites — untap the star on any station.
- Delete everything — uninstall the app. Since nothing is stored off-device, uninstalling is a complete deletion. There is no account to close and no request to make of us, because we hold nothing to delete.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it. Material changes — in particular, any introduction of analytics or advertising — will be described here rather than made quietly.
